Academics at IAOR
A K–12 foundation
At Island Academy of Roatan, we are committed to providing students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success both locally and internationally. As a U.S.-accredited institution, we offer an educational pathway that allows our students to meet both Honduran and American academic standards. Our graduates have the opportunity to earn an 11th grade Honduran diploma, as well as a 12th grade American diploma. This gives them a strong foundation for pursuing their goals beyond high school. Our approach to learning evolves with our students. From Pre-K through 5th grade, we combine textbooks and structured academic content with hands-on, in-person activities that encourage students to engage with what they are learning. As students enter 6th grade and progress through high school, they transition to a blended learning model that combines an online curriculum with the instruction and personal support of in-class teachers. This approach allows students to develop greater independence while still benefiting from the support of a traditional classroom environment. Above all, we believe that academics should inspire students to think critically, ask questions, solve problems, and take ownership of their learning. Our goal is not simply to prepare students for the next grade, but to give them the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in college, careers, and life beyond IAOR.
